This small, remote campground and picnic area located at the site of a Civilian Conservation Corps camp of 1937 provides a quiet setting for escaping from your normal routine. With just 8 individual campsites and a picnic shelter, it is enjoyed by campers, picnickers, mountain bikers, equestrians, and hikers. A brochure of the recreation area, click here. The Berryman Trail leaves from this recreation area, and traverses 24 miles of scenic Ozark countryside and winding through timbered stands and fields. Directions:
From St. Louis, take Hwy 21 south to Potosi (60 miles); then, take Hwy 8 west 16 miles to FR 2266 following it to the Berryman Campground or continue on FR 2266 to FR 2265 and turn left; then, turn right on Hwy. W to Brazil Creek Campground.
Closest towns are Potosi and Steelville.

Mountain biking:
Popular among mountain bikers, the 24 mile loop Berryman Trail traverses scenic Ozark countryside, winding through timbered stands of oak, pine and bottomland hardwood, climbing switchback fashion from low bottoms to high cherty ridges. Interesting flora and fauna abound in the old fields, glade-like rock outcroppings and deep forest. The western half of this trail also serves as part of the Courtois Section of the Ozark Trail, and can be used as part of a multi-day thru-ride. Be sure to yield the right-of-way to horseback riders.
Campground Camping (Horses allowed)
This is the site of a 1930's Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Camp of the same name. You'll find 8 campsites, each with table, lantern post and fire ring. Centralized vault toilet, but no drinking water. Picnic Pavilion easily accommodates groups of 25- 30. Horses are permitted within this campground.
RV Camping
Can accommodated up to 34' RVs. No hookups available at this location.
Day Hiking and Backpacking
The 24 mile loop Berryman Trail traverses scenic Ozark countryside, winding through timbered stands of oak, pine and bottomland hardwood, climbing switchback fashion from low bottoms to high cherty ridges. Interesting flora and fauna abound in the old fields, glade-like rock outcroppings and deep forest. Day hikers may wish to hike point-to-point between Brazil Creek and Berryman Trailheads. The western half of this trail also serves as part of the Courtois Section of the Ozark Trail. Be sure to yield to other users. Be prepared for wet feet – stream crossings are not bridged. The Brazil Creek Trailhead also offers primitive camping.
Horse Camping
You'll find 8 campsites, each with table, lantern post and fire ring. No drinking water. Horses are welcome within this small campground; some hitching posts are provided, and there is horse water nearby. Be sure to clean up your area before you leave, and scatter manure away from the campsite.
